An effective kick drum mic stand can be made from a reglar mic stand, at a fraction of the cost of a production model.

The cheap mic stand was disassembled, and the length of the main telescopic tubes shortened.

The stand has several advantages over regular kick mic stands:
The boom is longer than regular kick mic stands, so it's easier to close mic the batter head. The boom can also be detached to easily mic a resonant head.
The feet are longer, so the stand is more stable and can hold a heavier mic.
